Turn off your cell phones and just RELAX!

Going to a spa is on my list of favorite things to do! It doesn’t matter if it’s a destination spa or a day spa where I live–I love it all!

I have been to spas in Asia, Europe, Australia, South America, North America and on the high seas. And spas keep getting better and better — providing more ambiance and exotic services. They rarely disappoint.

I spent some time recently at Drift Spas at the Palms in Las Vegas. With its vaulted ceilings, a co-ed hammam, crystal clear pools, chocolate brown walls, and large blue glass doors everywhere, this spa retreat is stunning. There was a quiet room that had latest magazines to read, fresh fruit, trail mix and high-end quality tea to enjoy. A great place to just sit and unwind.

But my fellow spa-goers have been disenchanting lately.

The Drift Spas has a women’s-only hot tub, sauna and steam room complete with cold plunge pool. And as I was enjoying my spa time, a woman turned around in the hot tub and I could see that she was holding her cell phone to her head. I was stunned. She continued to talk on for 15 minutes while I (tried to) enjoy the sauna and plunge pool.

Shortly before I left for the quiet room, I noticed another woman sitting on the lounge chair texting away. I really could ‘t believe it. A spa is a place to relax and enjoy and get away from all that. To unplug! It’s a place to focus on you! Right?

While I was getting dressed, a woman had her gear sprawled all over the only plush round bench in the change room. She was sitting on the bench naked, texting away, unconcerned that I had nowhere to sit and put on my shoes — as she changed the world. Well, she definitely changed my world. From now on I only want to go to cell phone-free spas. Spas that respect the integrity of what it means to go to a spa.
